Dean Review Consultation Questions

Written submission to Dean review

Submission number: DR-18B

Name of organisation making submission: DR-18B Barrie Construction Association

Dear Mr. Dean:

The Barrie Construction Association (BCA) is a mixed-trade association that supports close to 400 industrial, commercial, institutional employers in and around the Simcoe County region. Many of our members are small to medium enterprises that depend heavily on employing local, skilled tradespersons.

The BCA became members of The Council of Ontario Construction Association in November 2007 and we support their efforts to ensure that Ontario’s legislative landscape is one in which the non-residential construction industry can grow and prosper.

We joined the Ontario Skilled Trades Alliance (OSTA) in November 2012 and support their efforts to ensure that issues faced by Ontario’s skilled trades employers are brought to the forefront of government decision making.

The BCA members adhere to well-established government building codes, engineering standards, public health, safety and environmental regulation. It is our belief that the public interest is not served by duplicating regulatory bodies or enforcement practices that are already in existence.

This association supports the consultation documents crafted and submitted by COCA and OSTA and it is our belief that the main objective of the College should be training and the promotion of the trades.

We are appreciative of the opportunity to address our concerns and we welcome the opportunity to meet with you.

Yours very truly,
